Chandrayaan 2 came quite near to making a lunar landing as well. Although it has nearly traveled 3 crores 84 lakh kilometers, the landing did not go as well as it should have. However, the Chandrayaan-3 mission will soon make history by making a soft landing on the south pole of the moon. If everything goes well then India will attain another milestone in Space Technology and Exploration.
Here’s all the information you need to know about Chandrayaan 3, from Launch to Landing-
When was Chandrayaan-3 Launched?
Chandrayaan-3 was launched on July 14, 2023, from the Andhra Pradesh based- Sriharikota Satish Dhawan Space Centre.
Why was 23 August chosen for landing?
The answer to this question is that there are only 14 days of light on the moon. The moon is becoming darker by another 14 days. And the south pole of the moon will be illuminated from August 23 to September 5. Hence Vikram Lander must land between these dates.
Where is Chandrayaan going to land?
According to reports, Chandrayaan 3 is expected to land near the South Pole. It is believed that no other country has reached this area. After Chandrayaan 3’s successful landing, India will be the first nation to set this benchmark.
Chandrayaan has traveled for 40 days and is now prepared to touch down on the lunar surface.
What is Chandrayaan-3’s Total Cost?
Everyone also wondered how much money was spent in total on Chandrayaan-3. The original launch date for this mission was in the year of 2021. However, on July 14, 2023, this mission was changed as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
On the other hand, almost 900 crores were spent on the launch of Chandrayaan 2.
