So, winter is coming and it’s time to start looking for the best places to visit in California during winter. And we shall be doing the very same thing in this blog. So, without wasting any time, let’s get right into it:

1. Lake Tahoe

matter which winter location you visit in California, none will be quite like Lake Tahoe. After all, it is the same location that hosted the Winter Olympics back in the year 1960. And we all know how big of a deal Winter Olympics are.

Needless to say, this place also offers amazing opportunities for winter sports like Skiing and snowboarding, which are also the main attraction of this place. so, if you are looking for things to do in California during the winter, this is the location to consider.

There is a reason it is first on our list.

2. Truckee

Truckee is just some 25 minutes away from the North shore of Lake Tahoe. But Truckee is not the kind of place that would live in Lake Tahoe’s shadow.

It is without a doubt one of the best places to visit in California during winter. Plus, it also serves as the gateway for many good reasons. And the best part of all, Truckee is official the snowiest place in entire California. How amazing is that?

This going without saying but there is a lot of ton load of things to do in this place. in fact, it is going to be hard to choose what to do and what not to do. Definitely, one of the best places to visit in northern California during winter

3. Big Bear

If you are a ski lover, you need to visit Big bear.

Yeah, it’s as simple as that. Because it is one of the best ski locations in the south part of California state. Located nearby Sun and Sand along the Pacific Ocean, this location is the place to go if you are looking for a snow-filled adventure.

Again, there are many fun things you can do here like playing with the snow and renting a cabin with friends to experience the true nature of the place.

4. Mammoth Lakes

You must be thinking, why are all these locations named so weird, but that’s just something that compliments their adventure-driven nature.

Anyway, Mammoth lake in winter is a truly magical sight to see. Already a well-renowned ski destination for skiing enthusiasts around the world, there are few places that can rival mammoth.

Consequently, you can find almost endlessly long cross-country skiing paths. There are even amazing downhill runs, but those are reserved for more experienced skiers, and boarders.

If you are still a kid at heart, (which you are), or have brought some kids along, Tubing and sledding are a fun way to explore snow mountain terrain, while also having an amazing thrill-filled ride.

5. Idyllwild

Idyllwild is not very far from the sun in palms spring or San Diego. as the name itself tells, it’s an Idyllic winter location and offers many things to things to do in California during winter.

We have to say, this is one of the most unique locations on our location.

But what’s makes it such a great destination for winters is the fact that it’s about one mile in elevation, just like Denver.

If you want to experience the true beauty of Idyllwild, you have to visit it yourself.

6. Hot Creek

Do you know why it’s called Hot creeks, and still makes it on a list of winter destinations?

Located near Mammoth Lakes, the creek is constantly fed by Warm waters from hot springs. As a result, the creek stays liquid rather than freezing in winter like in another part of California. But this doesn’t mean there is no snow, there will be a lot of it.

This is definitely one of those unique locations that you just have to try.

7. Yosemite National Park

Last on our list is the magical Yosemite national park. There are not enough words in our books to define how amazing this place looks in winter’s snow. And is easily one of the best places to visit in California during winter.

When you are here, you have to try amazing locations like Half Dome, and in fact, the entire Yosemite Valley is covered with a thin layer of white snow.
